What the heck do I sound like?

my_voiceEver since its beginning, I’ve always tried to keep the focus of VAN away from me. I want the blog to be about helping others discover the world of voice acting and not jabber on about my recent auditions, gigs, or my unfortunate coffee addiction.

But recently I’ve noticed many of you searching the Internet for my demo. Yep, I know. I know because my website stat software tells me so. (And you thought you were being sneaky, huh? 😉 )

So without further ado, here is my commercial demo:

(A big “THANK YOU!” goes out to the fabulous Deb Munro and her studio for the direction, production, and inspiration behind this demo!)

  1. Nice to finally meet (hear) you David!

Excellent demo. I’m surprised how different each spot sounds and yet you keep each one genuine and authentic. Well done!

  2. LOVE it. Especially “the smell you leave behind” LOL

I think you should add your Gollum impression, personally. 😉 Always did love your interpretation of his character. Seriously, during the Jackson films, I kept thinking, “Radtke could’ve done better.”

  3. Seriously, you’ve got a great voice with a huge range! Wish I had that…but hey I’m sure you didn’t get it overnight, right? Time for me to practice practice practice!

  4. Thank you everyone for the compliments! 😀

It’s strange, I never feel nervous when auditioning or recording. But I was actually quite apprehensive about posting my demo here! I guess it’s just the heart of a performer: always concerned about how one appears to the masses. 😉

    Thanks again for the compliments!

  5. Baby, you got the chops! But what about that whole “Gollum” thing? Does it have anything to do with the “cave” you mention in your demo?

    Love the blog!

  6. I just came across your site this evening searching for VO startup tips/practice scripts. I agree with the others on the “bravo” for your demo. I have not looked through all of your posts. Therefore, if you have already discussed audio editing, please forgive my ignorance. I saw your soundbooth (closet) and computer station. How much audio editing do you perform on your recordings? Would you be willing to discuss your editing software settings and techniques?

  8. Neety,

Thank you very much for the compliment about my demo! 😀

Deb is an excellent coach and a wonderful person. I’ve had quite a few coaching sessions with her and would recommend her to pretty much anyone interested in getting into voice acting.

    Best of luck,
    -David
