When I first began Voice Actor's Notebook (VAN) a few months ago, I figured that only a small handful of people would find the blog and actually read it. ("Small handful" meaning me and about four or so others.) When, what to my wondering eyes should appear...
Just this past month (June) VAN received over 1,700 unique visitors from around the world!
Now, I do realize that this miniscule number is but a grain of sand on the Internet beach when compared to the sheer volume of visitors that websites such as Google and Facebook receive, but I'm beside myself with joy nonetheless! In addition, VAN has approximately 720 monthly RSS subscribers.
When I see numbers like these it motivates me to write even more informative and entertaining articles to keep the 'blog flame' alive.
Thank you everyone for your continued readership!

I'm always extremely grateful when my writing gets recognized by others in the voice over community. And today is another day of gratitude and celebration. Once again John Florian of Voice Over Xtra has reprinted one of the posts here at VAN.
Thank you so much for your support!

Or is it a tweeter? Or is it a twitterer? Titles aside, I'm now officially signed up to Twitter and have begun my journey through the land of social media and micro-blogging.
I'm not sure how I'll be using it. Maybe I'll just use Twitter to let people know when I update the blog. But who knows? Maybe I'll become addicted and live my life vicariously through the tweets...
Anyway, you can follow me here.
Until we tweet again!

As the VoiceJockeys.com saga continues to unfold, many beginning voice-over actors (and even some veterans) are scratching their heads about what is a fair price to charge for their time and talent.
Voice actor, Paul Strikwerda, has written an excellent article titled The Wild, Wild West Of Quoting Your Price: 10 Classic Mistakes that was recently posted on VoiceOverXtra.com.
I encourage everyone to check it out.

I'm still in a fuming state of rage after reading an article that was posted earlier today. It talks about a website where voice talent can sign up to get paying jobs (of which there are plenty.) Voice actor and attorney, Rob Sciglimpaglia Jr., digs into the site's contract to show the voice-over world just how some websites treat the talent that use their services.
If you haven't already, read the article!
While seasoned voice actors usually pay close attention to contract details, those who are just beginning their journey into voice acting may not be aware of some of the "sneaky bits" located in the fine print of some contracts. Beware!
A thousand thanks to Voice Over Xtra and Rob Sciglimpaglia Jr. for helping voice over artists protect themselves!

I'm giving everyone a heads up. During this week I'll be updating the design of VAN. Which means that sometimes the blog might look slightly off, sometimes things will be floating around in the wrong places, and if you're using an older browser (namely, Internet Explorer 6 or lower) then it might just be a complete catastrophe until I can get the bugs worked out.
UPDATE:
Most of the basic redesign is complete. Now it's just a matter of checking it out on other browsers and making tweaks.
So far, so good...

The day my best friend announced that she was getting married I was truly and deeply happy for her. "That's wonderful!" I said. "Congratulations!" I hugged her in that I'm-a-man-and-you're-a-woman-but-we're-just-good-friends kind of way. We happily chatted for a few more minutes until she lowered her eyes in a very sorrowful expression. "And..." she began, lips quivering a little and swallowing a growing lump in her throat. "I'll be moving in the beginning of April. Kinda to the other side of the country."
Dear Lord in Heaven...
I was heartbroken — crushed. My dearest friend, my confidant, my buddy... was leaving. I swallowed the growing lump in my throat and said the only thing I could manage: a long, drawn out "Oh..."

Here's a little voice-over humor I thought the faithful readers of VAN would enjoy. It's a comic called Voice Overload and it's done by voice actor Jeffrey Kafer. Jeffery does a fantastic job of capturing the humorous side of the whole voice over business: the ups and the downs (with the occasional sudden left hooks and right jabs as well.)
Here are a few to get you started:

There are already a couple dozen comics on his website so be sure to
head on over and check them out!

Okay, I've officially gone off the deep end. I've jumped the shark. I've gone where no man has gone before (to my knowledge.) I just spent the past hour making a VAN wallpaper for my iPhone. And since I think it's kinda cool, I'd like to share it with everyone!
Either right click on the image and choose "Save Image As..." to save it to your hard drive (if you're using a computer to read this post) or tap and hold on the image until the mini-menu pops up and choose "Save Image" (if you're reading this on your iPhone or iPod Touch.)
Enjoy!
