I can't believe it. The last time I wrote was November 30th. NOVEMBER 30TH! Ack!
There is a reason. Well, a few reasons to be exact. But before I get back into the full blogging swing of things, I just want to let the VAN readers know that I'm still alive and kicking as well as update everyone on what's been keeping me away from the blog.
Voice over jobs galore
I'm a lucky guy. Very lucky. Back in August I got a new job as the main voice for a video production house (VPH). I wrote about that voice over job here. Since then I've been happily slammed with 50 to 60 scripts a month. They keep me quite busy.
Then in January I was contacted by another VPH to be one of their main on-call voice actors. This job isn't as busy as the previous one, but I'm not complaining. No, no, no. It's a good company with fun and interesting scripts that come in regularly.
Then, of course, there are the odd jobs here and there that just seem to popup out of nowhere.
Like I said — I'm a very lucky VO guy!
Of course, I'm a firm believer of "luck favors the prepared." Even though I was lucky enough to be contacted by these companies, if I hadn't practiced and practiced and practiced years in advance, I wouldn't have been even close to being ready to handle these jobs. So...
Are you practicing now to prepare for your "lucky break?"
The holidays
December and January are crazy busy for me personally. Yes, there is Christmas and New Years and all the preparation that goes into these two holidays, but also my two children have birthdays in December. Talk about a financial crunch! My father was also born in December.
Moving forward
Now that the insanity has calmed a little, I'll be putting on my writer's cap and getting more posts up. I promise! And since I've been so busy living the voice actor's life, I've got lots of stories to tell...
I realize that I haven't written in about a month, but there is a very good reason.
Well, actually two good reasons.
A new job
The first is that around the middle of August I landed a new voice acting job, and it's the kind of job that voice actors salivate over: a full-year-contracted-guaranteed-pay kind of job! So I was busy going over the contract and getting acquainted with my new job. I'll write more about it in a later post.
A disease
The second reason is that I "contracted" pneumonia — ouch! Luckily though, it hasn't affected my voice, just my lung capacity. I know I know, I shouldn't push myself. But don't worry, I'm still resting and taking it easy... in-between VO jobs.
Long HAIR?
Call me late to the party, but just recently I saw Disney's Tangled and WOW was that a great movie! And so, for your viewing pleasure, here are two "behind the scenes" videos of the movie.
Video One:
Tangled's two stars, Mandy Moore & Zachary Levi, getting directed and singing the movie's love theme.
Video Two:
Interviews with the stars and crew:
(Listen to what Mandy Moore & Zachary Levi say: the two actors were NEVER in the same room together when performing their lines. It was all made seamless by through the directing!)
About 9 months ago (no, not THAT kind of 9 months ago) I wrote an article about how much VAN had grown during its first 9 months online. It was a very surprising and positive revelation: more unique monthly visitors and RSS subscribers than I ever thought VAN would get!
As of 3 posts ago, VAN has reached a new milestone: over 100 posts! (I just realized that today.) And so, I thought it might be a good time to once again share the blog stats...
I admit it. I belong to a not-so-elite group of people who proudly wear the title of "dumb little man." And the good news is that this group isn't exclusively for men only, women can be a part of this group, too.
So, if you fall into this category, what can you do?
Simple: check out the Dumb Little Man blog. It's a blog filled with some pretty well written articles that cover pretty much every area of your life. It has nothing to do with voice acting directly, but the articles can help your VO life indirectly. Good stuff.
Ever since its beginning, I've always tried to keep the focus of VAN away from me. I want the blog to be about helping others discover the world of voice acting and not jabber on about my recent auditions, gigs, or my unfortunate coffee addiction.
But recently I've noticed many of you searching the Internet for my demo. Yep, I know. I know because my website stat software tells me so. (And you thought you were being sneaky, huh? )
So without further ado, here is my commercial demo:
Nothing says "Welcome to the new year!" like a brand new blog design! Still the same great voice over blog, but now with a new and shiny look! It's almost like opening presents on Christmas morning! Well... almost.
(Please be patient while I tweak the color and work out the browser kinks.)
